Third Eye 001 - Introduction
AJNA
It is located between the brows, above the eyes, and near the top of the spine and has an indigo blue colour in the modern Western system. In the traditional view, the Ajna chakra is white in colour with two petals on either side. These petals symbolise a pair of nadis running up either side of the body that connects near the Ajna chakra. They are said to end at the nostrils.
The word Ajna means both self-command, achieved by overcoming the illusion of duality, and also the deep surrendering to the command or guidance of the guru. Ultimately, your own liberated self is the true guru, but until then, a guru is your selfless spiritual teacher.
When the Ajna chakra is activated, it is believed to coincide with a point in the spiritual development of a person where duality is overcome. So the Aja chakra governs spiritual awakening. Its keyword is illumination. Attachment to the transient world around us fades and a unified mental state emerges. In the traditional Hindu view, when the third eye is awakened, it is possible to quickly burn through past karma, detach from the illusory sufferings of the world and find true inner peace. Where an activated throat chakra indicates the achievement of a high level of self-purification, the third eye chakra's activation yields transcendence.
When the Ajna chakra is spontaneously awakened, however, the psychic abilities can come all at once. The experience can be overwhelming, and in the traditional view in order to move past the third eye chakra and into the crown chakra, it is necessary to overcome all attachments to the siddhis. Psychic abilities can have a powerful effect on our life experience and letting go of what may feel like omniscient powers can be a difficult task. Light is the third eye chakra's driving force, as both sunlight and the light of consciousness and illumination.
